Food portions is a very important topic when it comes to calories and wellness. Our food portions have reduced significantly since becoming Vegans. We have really noticed the change of portions to the whole food plant based lifestyle that came naturally and without force. The better we eat the less we eat it was just a natural turnaround. Our plates have become smaller and we use bowls more. We just love the smaller portions the less washing up and the amazing energy we get from our good food.

Cardboard bicycle can change the world, says Israeli inventor

Israeli inventor Izhar Gafni holds his cardboard bicycle as he poses for a photo in Moshav Ahituv, central Israel September 24, 2012. The bicycle, made almost entirely of cardboard, has the potential to change transportation habits from the world's most congested cities to the poorest reaches of Africa, Gafni, an expert in designing automated mass-production lines and an amateur cycling enthusiast, says. World Toilet Day – November 19, 2012

Wow – who know that today is World Toilet Day? This is the first I have heard of this day and want to share as an important issue for people and definitely for the environment.

World Toilet Day is observed annually on 19 November. This international day of action aims to break the taboo around toilets and draw attention to the global sanitation challenge.

Did you know :
2.5 billion people do not have a clean toilet
1.1 billion people defecate in the open
Investing $ 1 in sanitation generates a return of $ 5

Can you imagine not having a toilet? Can you imagine not having privacy when you need to relieve yourself? Although unthinkable for those living in wealthy parts of the world, this is a harsh reality for many – in fact, one in three people on this globe, does not have access to a toilet! Have you ever thought about the true meaning of dignity?

World Toilet Day was created to pose exactly these kind of questions and to raise global awareness of the daily struggle for proper sanitation that a staggering 2.5 billion people face. World Toilet Day brings together different groups, such as media, the private sector, development organizations and civil society in a global movement to advocate for safe toilets. Since its inception in 2001, World Toilet Day has become an important platform to demand action from governments and to reach out to wider audiences by showing that toilets can be fun and sexy as well as vital to life.

Pedal perfect: Bikers shed spandex to inspire new riders

People gather in downtown Decatur before setting off to ride, including Jae Schmidt, pictured with hat, the owner of Houndstooth Road bicycle boutique, who helped organize the event.

I saw this article and want to share. This type of event breaks down barriers brings people together and reminds one that cycling and wellness can be for anyone – it’s never to late to start. It’s always good to have options. Imagine if you can get fit at the same time as having fun. Perhaps your entire direction will change completely. Personally I have always loved a good cycle however since changing my lifestyle to the whole food plant based one and losing all the weight I have my cycling time and adventures has increased dramatically. The fitter I become the further I can go the more weather I can take (rain, wind, winter) and it just keeps on getting better. Definitely many more people should be opening up to cycling – its a natural progression in my opinion to have as your only set of wheels (do Zip Car for example if you need one) or to have on. The rewards are as easy as getting on your bike and heading out there …

How a Hong Kong alley rat changed a young couple’s life

Meet the lovable Mr. Tiffany (Mr. T for short): pen thief, beer drinker, and all-around lovable rodent.

“He was a street rat, no more than a few days old. His life had begun in the grimy alley beside our apartment in Hong Kong, and to most people, he would have embodied filth and disease. But we saw instead a fragile, unknowable life, and in the three years that followed, we came to see him as no average soul.” Read more via link below ….

http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/17/living/oprah-hong-kong-alley-rat/index.html%3Fhpt=hp_bn11?iref=obnetwork

In between the hype from last nights US Election I saw the headline “How a Hong Kong alley rat changed a young couple’s life” and read it. It reminded me how the labels we give animals separates from what is “good” animal to what is “not good” animal.  The innocence of this story reminds us that all animals have a place that such as this story can be life changing. What this couple did was an enormous gift of giving to what society would label “awful creature that must be killed” – many others would have passed by Mr. T in repulsion yet this couple picked it up and discovered more about themselves through Mr. T than perhaps any amount of soul searching book reading lectures of offerings of human wisdom would have offered.  Hence Mr. T’s story reminds me why I became a Vegan which at first was about health which eventually turned to my life long love for animals now labeled by society into categories of what is a pet for us what is food for us and what we should be scared of.

Thanks so much for the inspiring story.
